Supersport races are driven on paved surfaces with mid-sizes motorcycles, from manufacturers like Ducati, Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. It was introduced as a support class to the Superbike World Championship in 1990. Each Supersport race comes with a distance of approximately 100 kilometres. As in World Superbike, a control tyre is used. Although Supersport regulations dictate that the tyres must be road legal and therefore slicks are not allowed. The tyres are exposed to high speeds, fast accelerations, hard braking and strong lateral forces.
Supersport tyres are specifically designed for extensive usage on dry and wet circuits, excellent road handling, corner stability and durability. Nowadays, Supersport tyres are equipped with soft rubber for reaching high temperatures, but with a harder center compound to minimize tyre wear. Circuit racing is characterized by extreme high speeds on the straights, which leads to heat generation in the center, but with lower temperatures on the sidewalls. In order to get the maximum grip in the corners as well, the central part needs to support the sidewalls, which also leads to a more equal distribution of the heat generation. This bi-compound structure offers optimal grip on the straights and in the corners.
For the correct selection of the rear tyre the roughness of the tarmac, the (surface) temperature and desired durability are the most important features. The front tyre selection also depends on your style of driving.
In our extensive range we have many brands in stock, including Bridgestone, Metzeler, Dunlop and Pirelli. See below our complete selection of tyres within this category.
